WE HAVE BEEN INSTALLING CHIMNEY LINERS IN NASSAU COUNTY SINCE 1997.  MANY CHIMNEY LINERS HAVE BEEN INSTALLED BY US, FOR PLUMBERS AND HOME OWNERS WHO HAVE JUST CONVERTED FROM OIL TO GAS TO CLOSE OUT THEIR PERMITS AND RECEIVE A CERTIFICATE OF OCCUPANCY FROM THE TOWN THE HOME OR BUILDING IS LOCATED.  SINCE 2005 WHEN CHIMNEY LINERS BECAME REQUIRED WITH THE INSTALLATION OF GAS BOILERS SOME BOILER COMPANIES HAVE STARTED INSTALLING MINIMUM CODE SINGLE WALL LINERS (MOST INSPECTORS WILL NOT PASS) WE HAVE BEEN GETTING CALLED IN TO REMOVE AND REDO THE LINERS THE RIGHT WAY WITH THEM PROPER 2PLY SMOOTH WALL STAINLESS STEEL MATERIALS THAT HAVE A LIFETIME WARRANTY.  INFERIOR MATERIALS ARE NOT THE ONLY THING YOU HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT.  PLUMBERS ARE NOT INSURED TO WORK ON YOUR CHIMNEY 20, 30, 40 FEET OFF THE GROUND.  FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES PLUMBERS WORK IN BASEMENTS AND INTERIOR OF HOMES.  CHIMNEY COMPANIES ARE REQUIRED TO CARRY INSURANCE FOR WORKING OFF LADDERS AND ROOFS (NOT PLUMBERS, AND IF THEY TELL YOU THEY ARE DEMAND TO SEE THEIR INSURANCE POLICY).  I CURRENTLY DO CONVERSION LINER JOBS FOR A PLUMBER WHO WAS HURT INSTALLING A CHIMNEY LINER AT A CUSTOMERS HOUSE, AND HE ENDED UP SUING THE HOME OWNER AND GOT PAID BY THE CUSTOMERS INSURANCE.

NOW HE USES A CHIMNEY COMPANY,  US.

To install a STAINLESS STEEL CHIMNEY LINER into the heating flue, we initially determine what size liner you will need. Then we open the base of the chimney and reline the flue from top to bottom with a new 2PLY SMOOTHWALL  UL  listed stainless steel chimney liner. Next, we install stainless steel components at the base of the chimney liner to allow proper connection from the heating units into the chimney liner to allow proper ventilation of the gases into the atmosphere.  A stainless steel chimney cap is installed at the top of the chimney liner in order to prevent unwanted elements from entering the chimney, such as precipitation, animals, and debri. Carbon monoxide can enter your home if your chimney doesn't have a stainless steel liner or the original terra cotta liner has become cracked or broken  "shaling" tiles. This is when thin slices of the face of the chimney tile break away.

This is especially common in older chimneys

TYPES OF CHIMNEY LINERS

 1) In older homes Clay tiles are the most common type of masonry chimney liners. They were inexpensive, readily available, and perform quite well for open fireplace and oil burning equipment chimneys that are properly maintained. There are two disadvantages to clay tiles. The first is that, being a ceramic product, they cannot rapidly absorb and evenly distribute heat during the rapid temperature rise that  occurs during a use. This uneven heating produces an unequal expansion which in turn causes the flue tiles to crack and split apart. This is similar to immersing a cold drinking glass in very hot water. It will instantly shatter. A chimney with cracked chimney liners must be repaired before use. The second disadvantage is that tiles cannot adequately contain the liquid combustion byproducts produced by modern gas appliances.

2) Metal chimney liners we install are made of stainless steel, are primarily used to upgrade and repair existing chimneys. These liner systems should be U.L. tested and listed, and if properly installed and maintained are extremely safe and durable. Stainless steel liners are suitable for wood burning, gas, or oil applications.
